Vivid colours, defined lines, and semi-abstract forms create coherent stories of Canada’s northern indigenous heritage.
Alex Janvier is an indigenous visual artist heavily influenced by western modernist abstract art. The National Gallery of Canada’s (NGC) website states that Janvier uses his art’s universal appeal to challenge the current and past marginalization of indigenous communities.
His exhibition is taking place from Nov. 25, 2016 to April 17, 2017 at the NGC and showcases over 150 artworks.
